Zinc deficiency-Banana

Symptoms
Characteristic symptoms for zinc deficiency are chlorotic zones in the intercostal areas which are spread over the whole leaf and give the leaf a yellowgreen, strip-like mottled appearance ("rayadilla"). The midrib does not remain green. These symptoms start on younger leaves of the banana plants. A purple tint on the underside of young leaves has also been observed. The plant may show ‘rosetting’ leaf alignment. Fruit bunches can be small and deformed, producing short, straight fingers.

Reasons
Zinc deficiency. Among all micronutrient deficiencies, zinc is the most frequently observed one. Other nutrients like P, K, Mg, Mn or Fe also show chlorosis as deficiency symptoms, but the mottled appearance is characteristic for Zn deficiency. Zn deficiency symptoms may easily be confused with those of virus diseases or herbicide damage.
