Sugarcane - Necrosis

Symptoms
Early symptoms start with chlorotic spots or yellow mottling of older leaves. Later on, these lesions merge to produce an orangebrown 'freckling' giving the leaves a rusty appearance. Younger leaves often remain green.

Magnesium deficiency Magnesium and calcium deficiencies may occur at the same time. Take care not to confuse the symptoms with those of rust diseases.

  • Acidic soils
  • Potassium rich soils
